the word

today's word comes to us from saul williams, shamanic soul poet.

this excerpt is chapter 26 in the dead emcee scrolls: the lost teachings of hip hop. and so we read:

When you say you love me a series of changes begin to occur. First there is a warmth. The warmth generates heat. The heat permeates the cold. The ice melts. Limbs and branches are thawed. Blood circulates. A feeling of comfort pervades.

The body is oxygenated. It becomes limber. It yearns to dance, to move about freely and express its newfound energy. Music is sought through voice or ear. The heart identifies the rhythm of the song and synchronizes its pace. A union is formed between the visible and the invisible.

Song is the invitation from the primordial unseen to become one with that which is seen. To nod your head is to agree that the moment is godly: communion. To dance is to become God. There are many ways of dancing. Follow your heart.

triflin' ass love songs

there have always been some "love" songs that skirt the edges (or jump a good 6-7 feet over the line) of propriety. here are a few that come to mind, from the mildly offensive to outright blatant hussiness.

5. joe, "all the things your man won't do". although this breaks with the old school vibe we were aiming for, a paramour deemed him worthy 'cause, "he's always tryin to be somebody's side piece". so here you go!

4. billy paul, "me & mrs jones". and they don't sound young, either...shameful!

3. luther ingram, "(if loving you is wrong) i don't wanna be right". lots of remakes on this one, but it seems mr. ingram performed the definitive version. either way, this has to be the most doomed affair on the planet. even the parents are against it. awful.

2. atlantic starr, "secret lovers". they know they're wrong, and the duet factor brings the trife level close to perfection. but, there is one that tops them all...

1. shirley murdock, "as we lay". 'nuff said.

and a couple of honorable mentions to...

the isley brothers, f. chante moore & r. kelly, "contagious". the justification factor isn't there, but the operatic skit? "low down dirty woman / back to where you come from"? trife. something nice: it is arguably one of the few times the isleys tried a "hip" sound that didn't sound utterly ridiculous.

pleasure p, "boyfriend number 2". this is a new single, so it's apparent that the youngbloods are keeping the traditions alive. but the stage name? i can't.

also see: "i love your girl".

dangerous daggering

fellas, prowess be damned. if you wanna keep your boy in prime condition, daggering probably isn't the way to go.

this sista's blog title says it all.

the music and dancing have always been a favorite, and having come of age in baltimore club culture, your authoress is no stranger to sex on the dance floor.

but when you add this to all the fire pon chi chi man stuff, it's a shame it's come to this.

sexy news: special edition - amazon fail

everyone's suddenly twittering about this amazon.com situation.

apparently "adult themed" books no longer have their sales rankings posted. the problem is, even glbtq lifestyle/family-oriented titles are getting caught in the net.

hm.

cnet has some more detailed information. feministe is talking about it, too.

according to urbantantrika, you can call 1-800-201-7575 if you'd like to speak to amazon directly about this action.

update: it seems this could have been the result of an overzealous computer program or human error.
